Chinese fencer Olympic champion Zhong Man said on Wednesday that 2009 Universiade is just a warm-up for world championship, and that he likes the Universiade village.
"I feel very relaxed, it (Universiade )just is a warm-up for the World Championship since all the athletes in the game are students from around the world." said the Olympic champion, adding that he would try his best to compete with other fencers just like every time he does.
Zhong, member of Chinese team for Universiade, is now a student in the Beijing Sport University, majoring in sport and training subject. The 25-year-old sabre fencer defeated Frenchman Nicolas Lopez 15-9 in men's sabre individual final at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
When asked to comment on the Universiade village, he said "it is new, very clean and tidy."
However, he admitted that he really hated to have to wait for at least 20 minutes for breakfast in cafeteria. "You just wait and wait, and it is so crowed. At last I just gave up and came back for fast noodle," he said.
"Fortunately, our delegation has prepared some fast noodles and canned food." he sighed.
He said that he had never been to Belgrade before. When he first arrived here, the first impression was that the city is so clean, the air is fresh, and Serbians are so kind and friendly.
The 25th summer Universiade was kicked off in Belgrade on Wednesday and it will last until July 12. Some 9,000 athletes -- students from 140 countries and regions will compete in 15 sports and 208 disciplines.
