Pan Zhaowei won title in men's 3m springboard at the Universiade 2009 here on Sunday, winning China's third diving gold in Belgrade, Serbia.

Pan ranked second in semifinals but finished 467.15 points to win his first international event title, beating Mexican Yahel Ernesto Castillo who got a final-high 92.75 points in his fourth dive.

Castillo took silver with 449.95 points while bronze went to Ukrainian Jllya Kvasha with 437.75 points.

"I didn's perform well in the preliminary and semifinals because I'm not seasoned with this outdoor competition," said Pan, whose personal best was a silver medal at East Asia Games. "But I adjusted myself through the matches."

"Then I'm used to the venue and performed well in the final."

"Though coaches didn't set any target for me, but I know that myself is my biggest opponent and I won."

Wu Minghong, who paired Zhang Sen to win China's first diving gold at Universiade 2009 in men's 3m synchronized springboard final on Saturday, finished fourth with 432.60 points.
