Uganda's top tennis player Duncan Mugabe has been selected on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Grand Slam International 18 and under (U-19) junior team due to compete in north Africa.

Mugabe's selection comes after impressive displays at various African and European tournaments. It is the third time that the Ugandan youngster benefits from the tour, having tackled it in 2006 and 2007.

"He has been selected once again for the tour and it will in the long run improve his game," James Kasumba, Uganda Lawn Tennis Association official was quoted by New Vision on Wednesday as saying.

"Mugabe will have a number of tournaments in Morocco. However, we are looking for more tournaments for him to participate in during the year," added Kasumba.

The 17-year old player is expected to start with a training camp in Casablanca May 22-25. He will then play in the RUC Tennis International Junior Open (Grade 4) May 27-31 and June 2-7 in the same city before featuring in Riad 21, Rabat (Grade 3) on June 9-14.

Mugabe's activities in north Afirca will conclude with two other competitions in Casablanca, the Mediterranee Avenir June 17-22 (Grade 1) and the Raquette d'Or Mohammedia, (Grade 2) June 9-14.

The ITF touring program is a development initiative and its success can be measured by the fact that between 1999 and 2005 at least one junior Grand Slam title has been won by a member of the team. Mugabe is the 2007 U-18 East African junior champion of the Kenya leg.

The Ugandan rising tennis ace is also a semi-finalist at the Africa Closed Junior Championships that were held March 24-29 in Gaborone, Botswana.
