Sweden's Mikael Lundberg birdied two of his last three holes to clinch the Russian Open yesterday for his second European Tour title.
The 34-year-old, who won his maiden tour title at the Moscow Country Club in Nakhabino three years ago in a sudden-death playoff on the fourth extra hole, shot a four-under-par 68 in the final round to finish on 21-under 267, beating Spain's Jose Manuel Lara by two strokes. Lara shot a 64 yesterday.
Lundberg, who was tied with Lara on 19-under with three holes to play, made a 27-feet birdie putt on the par-three 16th to charge ahead, then birdied the par-five 17th to move two-up on the Spaniard.
Britain's Benn Barham finished third, another stroke back after carding a 68 yesterday.
In Oakville, Ontario, Chez Reavie birdied the par-five 18th hole yesterday morning to take a one-stroke lead over Anthony Kim after the third round of the Canadian Open.
Reavie was two-under through 16 holes when darkness ended play on Saturday night on the course saturated by more than eight inches of rain in a week. He had a 25-foot putt from the fringe on No. 17 when he called it a day.
Yesterday morning, Reavie putted to three feet to set up a par on 17, then regained the lead with a tap-in birdie on the 502-yard closing hole. He finished with a three-under 68 for a 16-under 197 total at soggy Glen Abbey.
Reavie played 33 holes in 13-under on Friday, shooting 65-64 for a tournament-record matching 13-under 129 total and a three-stroke lead after the completion of the suspended second round on Saturday morning.
The 23-year-old Kim, tied for 26th at four-under through 15 holes when second-round play was suspended on Friday night, went birdie-birdie-eagle on Saturday morning for a two-under 69, then added a bogey-free 64 in the third round to match Reavie at 15-under when play was suspended. American Kim won the Wachovia Championship and AT&T National this year and is coming off a seventh-place tie in the British Open.
Scott McCarron had a 63 on Saturday - the best round of the week - to get to 12-under. Steve Marino (67) also was at 12-under, and Billy Mayfair (68) followed at 11-under.
Canadian star Mike Weir birdied four of the last five holes on Saturday for 68 to join Mark Calcavecchia (67), Sean O'Hair (67) and Nicolas Thompson (70) at 10-under.
