The opening day of the track and field competitions at the 6th Chinese City Games has been marred by rain in Central China's Wuhan on Monday, with all finals and heats on court finishing in disappointing results.
Southern Guangzhou's Li Yanmei only cleared 6.27 meters on the wet field in the women's long jump final, but it was enough for the 20-year-old, who was the duo winner of women's triple jump and long jump at the 2006 University Games of China, to lift the trophy.
Sha Li from northern Harbin and Cai Lipiao of southern Fuzhou finished second and third, respectively with deficits of 0.10m and 0.19m.
Li's title winning result was far from the Chinese youth record of 6.80m, let alone the world youth mark of 7.14m.
The women's hammer throw gold was pocketed by Shenyang's Hao Shuai, the bronze medalist of the 2006 world athletics youth championships, who threw 64.12 meters to beat the 2006 Asian youth champion Wang Zheng of Xi'an to the runner-up on 64.04m.
Chengdu's Wang Yang, who lost to Wang Zheng in last year's Asian youth championships, claimed the bronze after throwing 60.91m in the under-20 tournament featuring 12 athletes.
On men's part, Guo Yanxiang of east China's Yantai lived up to his title as the 2006 world youth championships bronze medal winner by taking the men's shot put triumph with 19.22 meters.
Wang Guangfu of Zhengzhou settled for the second place with a deficit 1.11m while the bronze medal went to Qingdao's Wang Like on 18.02m.
