Huang Haiqiang, being the brightest star in the field here on Tuesday with the world junior champion title, failed to hold his rein in the men's high jump at the Chinese City Games.
Asian Games relay winning member Chen Jue and World Universiade runner-up Zhang Peimeng proved their strength in the women's and men's 100 meters sprint respectively to be crowned.
Huang, 19, made a splash at the world junior athletics championships last year in Beijing by clinching the title in an amazing 2.32 meters, only shared a fourth finish on Tuesday with Wang Hua from Chengdu, Sichuan in 2.10 meters in the excuse of feeling bad for almost slipping in the competitions.
"The ground was too slippery due to the rain. I almost slipped down when I attempted to jump over 2.15 meters. Then I found that I could not perform normally," said Huang.
After the accident, Huang tried to clear the 2.20 meters but in vain, watching this year's world youth champion Wang Chen from Tanggu District of Tianjin to triumph in 2.20 meters.
But sprinters Chen and Zhang didn't allow any accident to happen in the track.
Chen, 19, didn't push herself forward until the final meters, claiming the title for Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, in 11.67 seconds.
The member of China's gold winning team in the 4x100 meters relay at Doha Asian Games was followed by Ha Xianping representing Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, in 11.72 seconds and Jiang Lan in 11.73 seconds.
The 20-year-old Zhang timed in 10.44 seconds to narrowly beat Wen who toed the finish line in 10.47 seconds.
Besides, national runner-up Sun Yawei beat highly expected youngsters to take the gold of the women's 100 meters hurdles in 13.60 seconds.
National Games finalist Zhang Guolin was crowned in men's 1500mbefore underdog He Pan claimed victory in the women's 1,500m race.
Reigning national champion Liu Xiaosheng breezily triumphed in the men's 1500m, so did national championships silver medllist Chen Jingwen in the women's 400m.
World junior champion and Asian Games gold medallist Xue Fei is expected to sweep the women's 5,000m gold on Wednesday.
