The Spanish Football League (LFP) announced the fixture calendar for this 2008-2009 season on Thursday.
The season kicks off on the last weekend of August and ends on the last weekend of May 2009, although the Spanish Cup final will not be played until three weeks later.
Both reigning Primera Liga champions Real Madrid and their mainrivals FC Barcelona kick off the new campaign away from home. Barcelona travel to the town of Soria to play newly promoted side Numancia, while Real Madrid travel to the Riazor Stadium, where they have not won since 1991 to take on Deportivo La Coruna.
Villarreal, who ended last season in second place, are also away from home on the first day of the new campaign, while Atletico Madrid entertain another newly promoted team - Malaga.
