The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday with a 95-92 win and they ran their home record at the Bradley Center to a very impressive 8-2 record.
The game against the Minnesota Timberwolves (3-19) showed exactly how the Bucks need to play in order to win in this league, at least on the offensive end.
The Bucks defense is a whole nother matter.
Milwaukee (10-13) had an amazing 26 assists on 33 made field goals, working out to 79% of baskets made were passes from a team mate in the flow of the offense. That allowed Milwaukee to off set being out shot from the field 46% to 43%.
Milwaukee's starting backcourt combined for 49 points and 15 assists as they time and again looked for team mates as well as each other.
Despite being down 42-40 at halftime, the Bucks starting turning things around behind the deft shooting of Redd, who had 15 points including three 3 point shots in the third period, giving Milwaukee a 66-58 lead heading in to the fourth quarter.
From there the game belonged to a young man from China, named Yi Jianlian, the Bucks 6th overall pick in this years 2007 NBA draft. He had three dunks, two jump shots, and four free throws all at critical time with the game in the balance. He even had an assist on a Mo Williams 3 point shot.
For the game Yi had a career high 22 points on 9/14 shooting in addition to his 4/4 FT shooting, and seven rebounds and two blocked shots in 38 minutes of play. Defensively, Yi man Craig Smith, a career 8ppg scorer, had a team high 30 points on 12/17 shooting, reminding us all Yi has to get stronger.
After the game Yi said, "It was good, I had a few important baskets at the end, and I hustled back on fast breaks."
On his jump shot from 16 feet that put Milwaukee up 86-82 and kept Minnesota at bay, Yi said "That shot came from Mo's drive. The defense came to him, and I could catch and shoot. I knew just to shoot the ball.
