Wang Zhizhi had his best all-around game this season by scoring 42 points and nailing down 18 rebounds when Bayi Fubang held Xinjiang Guanghui 91-81 at home in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in a 22th-round match of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) on Sunday.
Wang also had four steals, three assists and two blocks in 43 minutes, overwhelming Menk Bateer, who had 12 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks in 48 minutes, in a duel of the best Chinese centers in CBA.
The victory held Xinjiang for its 12th consecutive win and deduced its record to 19-3, second to the league leader Guangdong Hongyuan (20-2), which defeated Zhejiang Guangsha 108-97 at home.
Bayi opened the game with a 25-17 first-quarter, and rolled to a 34-19 lead in the second one.
Xinjiang, which beat Bayi 116-106 on the last encounter at home, scored the next 10 points and used an 18-2 run to usurp the lead, before Bayi hung on for a 40-39 first-half advantage.
Wang took the control of the game in the third quarter, leading Bayi to 72-63 and extended the lead to as many as 15 points for the second straight win.
Both the third-placed Jiangsu Dragons and fourth Dongguan MarcoPolo won as Dragons beat Jilin Northeast Tigers 109-88 while MarcoPolo stole a victory from Beijing Ducks' home by 110-102.
In Sunday's other matches, Shandong Flaming Bulls surprised Liaoning Hunters 117-98, Shanghai Sharks beat Shannxi Weilixin 121-90, Fujian SBS defeated Zhejiang Cyclones 106-82 while Yunnan Honghe beat Shanxi Zhongyu 128-116. Source: Xinhua
