Cleveland's LeBron James was named the MVP in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, after he scored 27 points and threw down a powerful dunk with 55 seconds left to lead the East past the West 134-128.
James, who added nine assists and eight rebounds, was the MVP for the second time in three years. He also won the honor in 2006.
Boston's Ray Allen, a reserve, also scored half of his 28 points in the last four minutes to help the East win for the third time in four years.
In the fourth quarter, the West had squandered a 16-point lead but Allen knocked down his second 3-pointer in 48 seconds to tie it.
New Orleans' Chris Paul answered with a 3 of his own, sending the hometown crowd into a frenzy.
Then the night's most stirring moment came when King James, slashing through the lane, rose and dunked over several West defenders to put the East ahead to stay.
"He's amazing," the West's Dirk Nowitzki said. "He's making shots and he almost had a triple-double. Amazing play down the stretch with the dunk. It was a fun game down the stretch and he really took the team on his back."
Dwyane Wade blocked a Nowitzki shot and made a layup to stretch the East lead and Allen hit a layup and three free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory.
Dwight Howard added 16 points for the East while Wade and Chris Bosh had 14 each. Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Brandon Roy each scored 18 points to lead the West. Chris Paul added 16 points and 14 assists for the West.
