Senegal win women's basketball African Championship of Nations

Senegal won the 21th edition of the African Championship of Nations (ACN) Women's Basketball, which closed Sunday night in Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital city, with the final score 72-57 against Mali.

With eight victories in this championship, played since October9 between 12 African teams, including Madagascar, Angola, Rwanda, Mozambique, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa, Nigeria, Mali, Mauritius, Tunisia and Senegal, the Lions of Teranga reclaimed their title after losing it in 2000.

Senegal led the game with 28-9 at the first quarter and continued their dominance at halftime with 47-23 and at the end of the third quarter, the Malians, who beat the Senegalese in 2007 during the final of Afrobasket women in Dakar, were unable to turn the tables around.

Madagascar, the host of the championship, finished eighth place after being beaten by Cameroon on Sunday morning while Maurice ended up last place.

Kani Kouyate of Cote d'Ivoire, who scored 125 points in total at the tournament, was named the Best Scorer, while the Best Player award was dedicated to Aya Traore of Senegal.
