Most thrilling soccer quarterfinal stuns Chinese City Games

Guangzhou and Chengdu played an extremely tough and thrilling quarterfinal in Central China's Wuhan on Monday since the men's soccer tournament kicked off at the 6th Chinese City Games.

During the match which ended with Guangzhou's 11-10 win, Chengdu's Wang Peng opened the scoring in the 15th minute, but Guangzhou's Bian Yu headed in an equalizer on 30 minutes. Wang peng scored his second goal just two minutes later and gifted Wuhan a 2-1 lead in the first half.

In the second half, Chengdu applied a majority of the pressure and Ye Hao tied the score 2-2. In the extra time, Ye Hao and Guangzhou's Du Wenxiang scored a goal respectively and the two squads saw 3-3 and went into the breathtaking penalty shootout.

The shootout last for nine turns until a Chengdu's player missed the shot and Guangzhou won 11-10.

Another eye-catching quarterfinal was hosts Wuhan's 1-0 win over Shanghai Pudong. Wuhan earned a penalty kick but its captain Wen Shuo's shot was saved by Shanghai's goalkeeper Yan Junling.

The goalless tie continued until the 60th minute when Wen Shuo recovered from missing the penalty and scored the winning goal for the hosts.

Besidas Guangzhou and Wuhan, Beijing Shunyi and Shenyang also advanced by upsetting their rivals Qingdao and Dalian 1-0 respectively.

The semifinals will be held here Wednesday.
