A last-minute goal saved Dalian from elimination in the women's soccer quarterfinal at the 6th Chinese City Games in Central China's Wuhan on Tuesday.
After an goalless tie in the regular time, Lianyungan's Dai Qingqing opened scoring on a corner kick only two minutes to go in the extra time, which almost sent Dalian players packed.
Dramatically, Dalian's Li Danyang grasped the last chance to tie the score in the last minute, scoring on a free kick sent by her teammate Hou Lijia.
In the penalty shootout, frustrated players from Lianyungang missed all the first four shots and finally lost 3-1 to Dalian.
In the other quarterfinals, Beijing Shunyi tied Guangzhou 0-0 after the extra time. Guangzhou was lucky to win 4-2 in the penalty shootout. Hosts Wuhan whitewashed Xi'an 3-0, and Nantong beat Shanghai Putong 2-1.
The semifinals will be held in Wuhan on Thursday.
