The Indonesian national soccer team says it will rely on support from its fans in the struggle against Syria during the second-round of the pre-qualifying match in the 2010 South Africa World Cup later this week.
"I'm sure the players will perform as well as they did in the Asian Cup in July, thanks to the support (of fans)," National Team Body chairman Rahim Soekasah was quoted Tuesday by local newspaper The Jakarta Post as saying.
"I believe the players will be able to deliver what is expected (of them) by the fans: a victory."
World soccer ruling body FIFA has named Torky Mohsen of Iran as the referee for the match, which will kick off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Bung Karno Stadium here.
Other match officials include Safiri Ismaeil, Shakour Heydar and Mombini Hedayat, all from Iran, and match-commissioner Yap Nyim Keong of Malaysia.
The Syrian national team -- which is currently ranked number 126 in the world by FIFA, one place below Indonesia -- will touch down on Indonesian soil Wednesday.
The Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) hopes to attract as many spectators to the game as the Asian Cup.
PSSI executive committee member Muhammad Zein said the organization had decided to sell the 80,000 tickets at lower prices, ranging from 15,000 rupiah (1.6 .U.S. dollars) to 150,000 rupiah (16.4 dollars).
