Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, manager of Brazil's national soccer team, on Monday ruled out changes to the squad ahead of Wednesday's match against Uruguay in the qualifying round for the 2010 South Africa World Cup.
"I don't think we need to change the team event 10 minutes, because the players would lose their confidence," Bledorn, better known by his nickname Dunga, told media. He was responding to public criticism of the team following its 1-1 draw with Peru on Sunday.
"If after five or six games things are not going well, then, yes, we will have to change," he told a press conference in southern Brazil city Sao Paulo, where Brazil will face Uruguay. "We have two days to train and play," he added.
Dunga's attackers -- Robinho, Ronaldinho and Kaka -- drew criticism after the draw, a third round match in the South African qualifiers. The press all agreed that the team's decision to play defensively after going 1-0 up is what allowed Peru to draw in the Lima-based match.
"We are not dependent on only three players. We must have a collective game. We will only solve our problems as a team if we play as a team," Dunga added. He also said that as Brazil played together more their tactics would be firmer.
"We have played two games away and one at home. The important thing is to qualify: to ensure a World Cup place. When that is settled, we will think of what is next," he said.
In 2002 Brazil qualified third in its group and won the World Cup. In 2006 the team was top of its group and did not win, he added.
He declined to name a team for Wednesday's match, but confirmed that defender Lucio, the team's captain, will not play due to a suspension. Source: Xinhua
