Otto Baric has resigned as Albania coach following the 6-1 defeat by Romania in a 2008 European championship qualifier, local media reported on Thursday.

He believed that the heavy away defeat in Bucharest on Wednesday coupled with Saturday's 4-2 home loss to Belarus had made his position untenable, saying these two losses have really hurt him and he can't continue coaching the Albanian team any longer.

The 75-year-old Austrian had just renewed his contract with the Albanian soccer federation for another two years at the start of this month.

Albania finished fifth in Group G with 11 points from 12 matches. It was eliminated from the final with Bulgaria, Belarus and Slovenia. Romania and the Netherlands qualified from the group.
