Thanks to French international Franck Ribery's goal, Bayern Munich on Sunday regained the top place of the Bundesliga table they lost just a day before.
Meanwhile, MSV Duisburg picked up three important points against FC Nurnberg, bidding farewell to the bottom of the relegation zone.
In an away game against Arminia Bielefeld, Ribery's score in the 22nd minute was good enough to help Bayern beat the host 1-0 on Sunday, propelling Bayern past Werder Bremen to regain first place in the Bundesliga table.
Playing in front of 23,800 spectators in the sold-out Alm, Arminia attempted to brave the stormy elements and steady downpour and to take it to Bayern from the very start.
Just four minutes in, Jonas Kamper just missed on a free kick and then challenged Oliver Kahn with a shot from 20 meters in the ninth minute.
Bayern kept their cool, with Ribery taking a pass from Luca Toni and overwhelming Arminia goalie Mathias Hain. Ribery's goal set the tone, as Bayern went on to control the first half and win.
With the narrow away win, Bayern overtook Bremen to regain the top place of the Bundesliga table they lost just a day before.
In another match between two teams within the relegation zone, Duisburg beat Nurnberg 1-0, sealing their second victory in eight home matches.
Duisburg thus moved closer to a position out of the relegation zone. For their part, Nurnberg missed their chance to get some separation from being relegated.
In front of 20,313 spectators, captain Ivica Grlic scored a lucky decider for Duisburg in the 72nd minute. Source: Xinhua
