German Bundesliga team Nurnberg have left the relegation zone as they defeated Hertha BSC 2-1 at home on Sunday.
This is the second win for Nurnberg, which beat Dutch AZ Alkmaare 2-1 on Wednesday to make their UEFA Cup hope alive.
German Bundesliga powerhouse Bayer Leverkusen shared the same fate on Sunday.
They beat newly-elevated Hansa Rostock 3-0 at home after they sealed a place in the next round of UEFA Cup with a 1-0 home victory over Czech champions Sparta Prague on Thursday.
For Nurnberg, Greek striker Angelos Charisteas opened the scoring for the host after five minutes, Zvjezdan Misimovic added a second in the 39th minute.
Fabian Lustenberger replied for the guest team in the 65th minute, but the Berliners failed to equalize the score.
This is also the fourth victory for Nurnberg in the Bundesliga matches this season, which makes the poor-fate team out of the drop zone for the first time.
For Berlin Hertha, however, this is their third lose in a row as well as their seventh away defeat of the season.
In another match of the day, goals from Simon Rolfes, Paul Freier and Theofanis Gekas earned Bayer Leverkusen an overwhelming victory against Rostock
This is Bayer's fifth successive victory, which help them cement fourth place in the Bundesliga table.
An away win at Werder Bremen in the next round could now hand Bayer a Champions League place over the winter break.
Hansa suffered their seventh away defeat in eight matches and are back down in the drop zone for the first time since September.
The team from the Baltic Sea have now lost their last five matches against their bogey team Leverkusen, conceding 13 goals without reply. Source: Xinhua
