Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini has agreed to a two-year contract extension that secures his services until 2010, the Primera Liga club said on Monday.
The 54-year-old Chilean joined Villarreal from River Plate in 2004. He steered the modest club to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup and third place in the Primera Liga to earn its first Champions League place in 2005.
It went on to make the Champions League semifinals, where it fell 1-0 to Arsenal in 2006, and finished seventh in the league.
A fifth-place finish last season earned it a slot in the UEFA Cup where it has just qualified for the last 32 knockout phase.
It is fourth in the Primera Liga, seven points behind leader Real Madrid.
