Sixteen Zambian match officials have been selected to the 2008 FIFA panel of referees, Referees Association of Zambia (RAZ) general secretary Dickson Soko said from Chingola Wednesday.
The Post quoted Soko as saying that five of the match officials were women, and two women and four men were referees and the other10 people were assistants.
The referees include Wilson Mpanisi and Wellington Kaoma both of Lusaka, Cornelius Mwanza from Kalulushi and Janny Sikazwe of Kapiri Mposhi.The assistant referees are Felix Sichone from Kabwe,Moses Mwale, Bruno Tembo, Aziph Banda and Chichenga among others.
Soko said the two women who made the FIFA referees panel are Gladys Lengwe of Kitwe and newcomer Caroline Chilumba from Livingstone.
All 16 will serve on the FIFA panel of referees and assistant referees for one year.
Prominent on the RAZ roster on this year's FIFA panel list is assistant referee Kenneth Chinchenga from Lusaka.
Chichenga will be the only Zambian match official of the 32 referees picked by CAF to officiate at the Ghana MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals that kicks off on January 20.
It will be the second successive time that Chichenga will officiate at the African Cup tournament after featuring at the 2006 finals in Egypt. Source: Xinhua
