While the new players added to Corinthians during the off-season worked out with the team for the first time on Thursday, another six players were released by the head coach, Mano Menezes.
The most emblematic case is that of Roger. The player participated on the 2005 Brasileiro championship team.
However, the midfielder is no longer in the plans of coach Menezes and his immediate future is uncertain. He, along with the other five players released today, all have valid contracts with Corinthians.
Roger was loaned to the Flamengo soccer team during the 2007 season and did not have a solid performance. For this reason, he was returned to Corinthians.
Due to the high salary that the midfielder was receiving, nearly 70,000 U.S. dollars per month, the administration of the team is trying to trade the player to another team. Their priority is to find a permanent transfer; however, they would also accept another loan.
Apart from Roger, the other players who did not make the cut in the coach's plans for 2008 are: Marcelo, the goalie, Zelao and Cadu the fullbacks, and the forwards Ricardinho and Clodoaldo.
Marcelo, who wanted to continue his career, decided along with the president of the team, Andres Sanchez that he would be lent to another team. Zelao, accused by the fans of abusing the night life in Sao Paulo, will also change teams. Fabio Ferreira, also a target of fan complaints, worked out a deal that keeps him with Corinthians.
Wilson, the forward, had his contract bought by a group of agents for 400,000 U.S. dollars. The midfielder, Rafael Fefo was traded to Marilia. Source: Xinhua
