After having played for 14 years with the Sao Paulo soccer team of Corinthians, Betao, the fullback, is going to sign a three-year deal that will bring him to play for the team of Santos.
The player begins his first practice with his new team on Tuesday. The player has yet to say that he is the newest player to the team, however, the team's administration announced that he will appear to take part in Tuesday's physical activities.
Betao has yet to sign his contract, however, he has already agreed upon his salary and his schedule to officially sign his contract after Tuesday's practice.
Betao was involved in a frustrating trade between the teams of Corinthians and Socheaux, from France.
The French team conducted physical exams and brought the player to Europe, however, days later the player was returned to Corinthians.
The French team claimed that the player was too short for the norms of their league. Betao claims that the quick stay in France served as reminder "not to anticipate any contracts".
"I was very unhappy while I was in France when the deal didn't go through. However, I learned a lesson. Now, I will only confirm a transaction once I have actually signed a contract and begin to practice with the ball on the field of Santos," added the player.
Santos looks forward to their participation in the Libertadores Cup of 2008. In regards to the tournament, Betao added, "It is always gratifying to play in a prestigious competition for any player. However, I want to define my situation with Santos before I begin to think about my future with the team." Source: Xinhua
