Hungary has reappointed Peter Varhidi as manager of Hungary's national eleven, the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) decided at a board meeting on Tuesday, news agency MTI reported.
President of MLSZ Istvan Kisteleki said earlier that employing an international coach would be desirable but other members of the board insisted on keeping Varhidi in his post.
After Tuesday's decision, Kisteleki said Varhidi, whose contract ended in December, was pleased about the board's decision and accepted the extension of his contract.
"Varhidi was the board's only candidate," Kisteleki told a news conference. "He has our trust and so takes charge again as coach. We'll keep searching for a development director, whom I prefer to be a foreigner but who could also be coach later."
Varhidi was originally commissioned to coach the team back in December 2006.
Although Hungary failed to qualify for UEFA EURO 2008 the demure Varhidi remained popular, helped by a shock 3-1 home victory over world champions Italy in a friendly last August. Source: Xinhua
