Forward Kim Yong Ae scored twice to help DPR Korea to trounce defending champions South Korea 4-0 at the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) Women's Championship 2008 here on Sunday.
"We were very luck today, seizing four opportunities in the match," said DPRK coach Kim Kwang Min in a post-match media conference. "We could have claimed the title, but we didn't play well in the previous two games," he added.
"As a very young team, we gained great international experience in this tournament. Our aim is to turn mature in the coming two or three years," said South Korean coach An Ik Soo, whose team suffered three straight losses and finished in the bottom.
After a goalless first half, Kim Yong Ae broke the deadlock for DPRK in the 52nd minute. She poked in an unguarded net after her first in-area shot was bounced by the alert South Korean goalkeeper.
As the defending champion in the four-team tournament, South Korea was unwilling to throw in the towel, but their best scoring chance was denied by the woodwork after Cha Yun Hee cracked a powerful long-range shot. DPRK's defender Hong Myong Gum doubled their lead in the 68th minute when she met a fine cross from the right wing.
Two minutes later, midfielder Kil Son Hui surged into space on the right. She delivered a well-curved cross to help their skipper Ri Kum Suk hammer home before Kim Yong Ae claimed her second goal in the 78th minute to seal the victory. Source:Xinhua
