Sao Paulo tied Noroeste 2-2 in the Sao Paulo state tournament, their last test before their debut in the 2008 Libertadores Cup.
Although Sao Paulo opened the team with a 2-0 lead, it ended up losing a player in the 19th minute of the second half and tying Noroeste 2-2 in the 11th round of the Sao Paulo state tournament.
In the 25th minute of the first half, the team of Muricy Ramalho was winning by a score of 2-0. Hernanes and Borges both shot balls past the goalkeeper of Noroeste, Fabiano.
However, the visitors were able to come back and tie the game, prohibiting the home team from celebrating a victory and Richarlyson was expelled from the game.
Sunday's tie takes Sao Paulo to their 20th point of the tournament, against 19 from Noroeste.
Apart from counting on Juninho to put out in Sao Paulo's efforts, Ramalho was able to count on the performance of Richarlyson as the team's third fullback.
For this reason, Fabio Santos and Ze Luis acted as forwards, giving Hernanes some room to play. Hernanes scored in the 16th minute of the first half. Borges scored again on a header in the 25th minute for Sao Paulo, scoring his third goal of the tournament.
Before the first half came to an end, Otacilio Neto scored the first goal of Noroeste and gave the team some hope while entering the locker-room for halftime. The player scored his 10th goal of this year's tournament.
In the 19th minute of the second half, Richarlyson was ejected from the game after having received his second yellow card, giving the team of Noroeste a numerical advantage.
To take advantage of the numbers, the head coach of Noroeste, Marcio Bittencourt, repositioned his team to have more players up front. Thus, his team was able to tie the game at 2-2 after the ball appeared in the front of Vandinho, who sent the ball through the legs of Rogerio Ceni and into the net.
The game ended in a tie, much to the dissatisfaction of the home crowd.
