For the third time this season, Borges saved the day for Sao Paulo.
In Sunday's match-up against Guarani for the Sao Paulo state championship, the forward scored on an individual play, giving the team of Sao Paulo a 1-0 victory.
Borges received the ball in the 29th minute of the second half outside of the penalty box. Although he was defended, he spun around to face the goalie and fired a shot that caught everyone by surprise, sending the ball into the left corner of the goal.
With Sunday's victory, the Sao Paulo soccer club avoided any distance among the top four teams to qualify for the final rounds of the statewide tournament. Sao Paulo is currently in 4th place with 29 points, behind the leader, Palmeiras, with 31 points, followed by Corinthians and Ponte Preta, each with 30 points.
With their latest victory over Guarani, Sao Paulo has put up an 11 year undefeated streak against the team. Since 1997, the two teams have played each other 20 times. Sao Paulo has won 14 games and the teams have tied each other six times. Source: Xinhua
