German Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich thrashed Borussia Dortmund 5-0 on Sunday to realize a 10-point lead in the run up for the Bundesliga top title.
Three days after the dramatic drama in Getafe at the UEFA Cup quarter-final, Bayern staged an over-whelming sweeping victory in the domestic arena.
A brilliant first-half performance has been enough for FC Bayern to win the "dress rehearsal" for next Saturday's DFB Cup final against Borussia Dortmund.
As Bayern extended their lead in the Bundesliga to 10 points, the 21st championship seemingly a mere formality for the Bavarian club.
Hitzfeld's starting line-up didn't include slightly-injured players Franck Ribery, Miroslav Klose and Marcell Jansen as well as suspended Mark van Bommel and Lucio.
Still, the Bundesliga leaders cruised to victory thanks to goals from Lukas Podolski, Ze Roberto, Luca Toni (two goals) and Andreas Ottl.
Podolski opened the scoring early on with a beautiful curler into the top corner following good work from Christian Lell and Toni in the third minute.
Ze Roberto doubled the lead just five minutes later after another great move involving Toni and Philipp Lahm.
Toni then bagged his Bundesliga goals 17 and 18 within just four minutes to effectively end the game as a contest.
Ottl made it five in the second half, ensuring that Bayern equalized their highest win of the season, a 5-0 victory over Energie Cottbus. Source: Xinhua
