ROME: Juventus dealt a potentially fatal blow to 10-man AC Milan's Champions League hopes with a 3-2 win in a blockbuster match in Turin on Saturday.
Goals from Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Hassan Salihamidzich gave the host the edge over the reigning European champion, who counted two Filippo Inzaghi goals while Daniele Bonera was dismissed in the second half.
Juve thus closed the gap on second-placed AS Roma to seven points and it looks almost certain to secure a place in Europe's premier competition next season.
Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri heaped praise on his victorious outfit.
"We've beaten the world champions. They played brillaintly down our wings in the first half," he said. "In the second half we were better, we took control of territory and played the game we wanted to.
"We're playing a lot this week. First Parma and then Atalanta, we need to do our best, then we'll see where we're at.
"We're having an incredible season. Against Milan and Inter, I sensed their teams have already consolidated."
