Former Zambia national coach Patrick Phiri is tipped to become Swaziland national soccer team coach, Zambia Daily Mail reported Tuesday.
Phiri confirmed in Kitwe of Copperbelt province that the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) chief executive officer Frederick Mngomezulu phoned him at the weekend asking him for his services.
"Swaziland officials contacted me to basically find out if I was available to join them as national team coach and they really wanted me to travel to Mbabane before the end of the week to commence negotiations.
"But I told them first to send their proposed contract before II chart the way forward," Phiri said.
The NFAS is under pressure from both the government and supporters to relieve coach Raul Savoy of his duties because he has not won in six international games including the Africa Nations Championship qualifier against Zambia.
It is however believed that the Swiss born trainer Savoy who also coached in Morocco and Ethiopia before coming to Swaziland will be in charge of the Sihlangu's World Cup and Africa Cup qualifiers.
Phiri, whose contract with the Chipolopolo expired on March 31,2008, has since joined Nkana as mentor.
The Swaziland national team is expected to go into camp on May 19 to prepare for the games against Togo and Zambia in the qualifiers. Source: Xinhua
