In his first appearance as the head coach of Flamengo, Caio Junior led his team to victory in the opening game of the Brasileiro championship on Sunday.
With a score of 3-1 over Santos, Flamengo is off to a good start in the first division (Serie A) of the tournament as the team was able to score two goals within two minutes of each half.
Flamengo started the game strong. Souza came close to scoring in the 1st minute of play off a header, but the ball sailed above the Santos goal.
The team's first goal of the game came in the 29th minute when Marcinho received the ball in front of the net and fired it past the goalie.
One minute later, Ibson shot a beautiful ball into the upper left hand side of the Santos goal, making the score 2-0 in the 30th minute.
In the second half, Flamengo scored one more time. In the 25th minute of the second half, it was off the pass from Leandro Moura to Juan that led to the team's third and final goal of the game.
Santos was able to get on the score board in the 46th minute when Moraes was taken out by the Flamengo goalkeeper Bruno in the goalie box.
Moraes took the penalty shot and scored the team's only goal of the game.
