After having been knocked out of the Libertadores Cup last Wednesday, Sao Paulo came back to the fields on Sunday to show that they are still a team to be reckoned with.

In the third week of play of the Brasileiro soccer championship, Sao Paulo came back to tie Coritiba 1-1. Although Sao Paulo played at home in Morumbi stadium, few fans came out to show their support of the team.

The visiting team was the first to light up the score board. In the 14th minute of the first half, Coritiba's Michael streaked down the field and passed the ball off to Rubens Cardoso.

The midfielder set up a careful shot and placed the ball where Sao Paulo's star goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni could not touch the ball.

Sao Paulo did not take long to respond. In the 25th minute, Jorge Wagner crossed the ball in front of the net. Coritiba's goalkeeper leaped out to punch the ball, however, the ball deflected off Sao Paulo's Aloisio and fell in front of Borges. Borges did not hesitate to fire the ball past the Coritiba goalkeeper who laid flat on the ground in disbelief.

The second half was quite uneventful. Both teams had a handful of opportunities, but were unable to take advantage of a free lookat the goal.

With Sunday's result, Sao Paulo, last year's winner of the tournament, remains winless in this year's championship.

Sao Paulo has a total of two points and lies at the bottom of the leader board. Coritiba now has four points and is close to the leaders of this year's tournament.

In next week's fourth round of the Brasileiro championship, SaoPaulo will travel to play at Santos on Sunday. Coritiba will host Cruzeiro on Sunday as well.
