Switzerland midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta will be available for the opener of the UEFA EURO 2008 against Czech Republic on June 7 despite suffering ligament damage to his left ankle.
The Bayer Leverkusen player injured his left ankle in a training session collision with teammate Gelson Fernandez last week but was jogging without pain Tuesday morning.
"The healing process is proceeding without any problems," said Switzerland team doctor Cuno Wetzel.
However, Barnetta is unlikely to play in Friday's friendly against Liechtenstein in St Gallen. "It is probably too early for him and it would be too risky," said coach Jakob Kuhn.
But Barnetta, who turned 23 last Thursday, is confident of taking the field in Basel one week later. "I will be able to play on 7 June," he said. "One hundred percent." Source:Xinhua
