Germany are more hungry to win the 2008 European football championship than in 1996, German national football team manager Oliver Bierhoff has said.

"We are so eager to taking the title that we are more hungry than 1996," Bierhoff was quoted as saying by the website of German National Football Association.

At the European football championship in 1996, Bierhoff scored the first golden goal in football history to help Germany seal thetitle.

"In 1996 we got 2-0 at the first game, and this time we got the same score, maybe this is an auspice," said Bierhoff.

"Our team have already found our own style. Maybe it is difficult for me to compare Germany with other squads, but just like 12 years ago, we are a top-level team," he added.

Looking forward, Bierhoff was optimistic about Germany's next group match with Croatia, which luckily snubbed co-hosts Austria 1-0 at the opening match in Vienna.

"We know Croatia is a strong rival, the match will be tough, but we will do our best to crush them to win," he said.
