Herrera also played for Miami Fusion in U.S., and the Argentine clubs Belgrano al Platense, before retirement in the modest Gimnasiay Esgrima de Jujuy club.

To coach the Alajuelense will be the first experience of Herrera in the First Division, because previously he coached the Velez Sarsfield and was assistance of Hugo Toscalli in the same club.

Herrera has also worked with well-known Argentine coaches like Marcelo Bielsa and Jose Pekerman, to whom he accompanied in the past soccer World Cup in Germany 2006 coaching the Argentine national team.

"It took us six hours to define motives, programs, planning and also fixing the times to work the new process. It was an urgent designation, we preferred an Argentine than an European due to the time and the language," Hidalgo told local radio station Radio Columbia.
