Spain striker Fernando Torres celebrated the first important success in his career after scoring the victorious goal for Luis Aragones' side in Sunday's Euro 2008 final against Germany.
The 24-year-old's score on 33 minutes has sent his team on top of the European podium and ended a 44-year drought of the Spaniards in major tournaments.
"It's a bravo match. We have the lead early on and have the most beautiful moment to win the cup. I'm happy because we are not only the winners but won in style," said Torres who plays in English Premiership for Liverpool.
"I feel a tremendous joy," he said.
The Spanish front had pressed a lot on German defender Philipp Lahm before Torres chased the ball against the left back and allured keeper Jens Lehmann getting out of the goalmouth before tapping the ball slowly in.
"I was in the better position," commented Torres on his decisive score. "That's my advantage to pick up the goalie."
"That's fantastic. For me, it's the first big title and I hope it's the first of many. I want to win more and hope it's not the last," he added.
"The team that has played the best football in the tournament has won the title and now we have a place in European football history," said the hit man. "We are just happy with the way we control the ball as well as the match and that's why we are the champions." Source: Xinhua
