Atletico Madrid have presented their latest signing John Heitinga to the press and fans on Thursday.

The Spanish outfit, who finished last season fourth in the Primera Liga, have been busy over the summer adding to their squad as they prepare to return to the Champions League.

Among their signings are Brazilian midfielder Paulo Assuncao and French international goalkeeper Gregory Coupet, while the latest addition is Dutch international defender Heitinga, who has joined from Ajax.

The 24 year-old has signed a five-year deal with Atletico and is looking forward to his new challenge.

"I am delighted to be able to pull on this famous red and white shirt. I have come to a great club, which has a great history and a fantastic set of fans," he said at the presentation in Atletico's Vicente Calderon stadium.

Meanwhile Atletico President Enrique Cerezo was delighted with the new addition to what is starting to look like a very strong squad.

"He has played for his country on 40 occasions, after making his international debut in 2004," he said.

"John is a real team player, spending all of his career with Ajax before now coming to Spain. He is a player who has a great vision of the game and who can play equally well at right back or in central defense," said Cerezo.
