Brazilian forward Ronaldo arrived on Wednesday morning at the training facilities of Flamengo soccer team in Rio de Janeiro, hoping to recovery from his latest knee injury that has kept him off the field since the beginning of this year.
Upon arrival at the club, Ronaldo went directly to the medical offices of team doctor Jose Luiz Runco.
"Ronaldo is quite enthusiastic about the work at hand, which is fundamental. Clinically speaking, he is fine. His knee does not have any sort of problem and works normally," said Runco.
"We will now begin our work on strengthening the region. We will implement a healthy, controlled diet, and little by little we will allow him to participate in activities on the field," added the doctor.
A flamboyant fan of the Flamengo soccer team, Ronaldo requested that he be allowed to train at the team's facilities. The team without hesitation offered Ronaldo all the space and time he needs.
Ronaldo thanked the team administration and said he will now be going through the toughest time of his road to recovery.
"I am beginning the last stage of my recuperation. For me, it will be the most difficult. I will suffer quite a bit more. It's like a pre-season workout, the time when a player suffers most due to the physical training," Ronaldo said.
"Starting today, I will begin my daily workout here at the team headquarters. The team has offered to me at my disposal the help of some of the best professionals in the world," he said.
On his soccer future, Ronaldo said "I have to respect my recuperation. I will only be able to evaluate my options once I fully recover. Before I begin to think about that, I have to focus on my training and physical preparation."
Ronaldo re-injured his left knee during a match last February for Milan of Italy. Two minutes after entering the field, he lost his footing on the grass and tore ligaments in his knee.
He was expected to be off the field for nine months. The team doctors who followed his recovery claim that his knee is completely healed.
