Spain's Brazilian born midfielder Marcos Senna said on Wednesday that he and his teammates have to put this summer's European Championship success behind them and concentrate on qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.
Spain kick off their World Cup campaign on Saturday at home to Bosnia Herzegovina and continue against Armenia on Wednesday.
"The European Championships was very nice, but it's over," Senna was quoted by Spanish paper Diario AS as saying in the team's midday press conference.
After their European success, Spain are clear favorites to win both games against side much lower than they are in the FIFA rankings. However, Senna warned that playing Armenia and Bosnia Herzegovina would present a different challenge as their rivals sit deep and look to attack on the break.
"Last year gave us a lot of experience with games like the ones that we are going to play now. The coach has been speaking to us and we are preparing well for all of these games," he said.
"This season is going to be different from the start. We want to give our all and change our mindset. The European Championships were a great experience, but they are now part of the past and we have to live in the present," he said.
However, Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque suffered another setback that midfielder David Silva has had to leave the squad due to an ankle injury.
Silva follows Fernando Torres in being forced out of Del Bosque's squad; however, the Spanish will not be calling anyone up as a replacement.
