Chilean sports media hailed on Thursday their 4-0 win over Colombia at the National Stadium of Santiago as the most gorgeous in the era of coach Marcelo Bielsa, saying it enables the team to remain in the race for the South Africa World Cup in 2010.
"It was the most gorgeous game in the era of Bielsa. It surpassed all the problems it had with Brazil," daily Mercurio said, and it synthesized the qualifier as the Argentinean coach put it: "The team showed entirety and decision."
Chile has obtained 13 points for fourth place after goals from Gonzalo Jara (in the 27th minute), Humberto Suazo (39), Ismael Fuentes (49) and Matias Fernandez (71).
"La Nacion" daily said "it was an almost perfect game, the one of Chile. It is true it did not display the vertigo as the one on Sunday, but it certainly was a compact team, united, equal."
"Bielsa knew that Colombia has been giving permits on the left wing and the presence of Pedro Armero as an ominous lateral did not improve that variant, and that is why he played all his cards to exploite that sector," La Nacion added.
For the cheerful daily "La Cuarta": "Chile danced to all the orchestra, not samba, nor cumbia..." referring to the defeat to Brazil last weekend.
While "La Tercera" daily said it was "unbelievable" his celebration of Fernandez goal, Bielsa justified it saying during a press conference that it was "the most beautiful moment" of the game.
