Newly promoted ADO Den Haag surged to the top of Dutch premier league (Eredivisie) Saturday with a convincing 3-0 home victory over AZ Alkmaar, edging defending champions PSV Eindhoven into second place due to goal difference.
ADO, which were promoted from the Dutch second division this season, scored all the 3 goals in the second half through Richard Knopper, Yuri Cornelisse and Hursut Meric at the 54th, 71st and 85th minutes respectively. This was the second consecutive win for the Dutch premier league (Eredivisie) newcomers.
In Eindhoven, Ibrahim Afelley scored the lone goal in PSV's narrow win against lowly-rated Sparta Rotterdam at the 58th minute.
In Rotterdam, hosts Feyenoord thrashed newly promoted Volendam 5-0, thanks to two penalty kicks by Jon Dahl Tomasson in the first half, and two goals by Diego Biseswar in the second half. Michael Mols scored the fifth one at the last minute.
After Saturday's matches, both ADO and PSV had perfect records with two wins out of two rounds, but ADO had a better goal difference.
Ajax, runners-up last season, are scheduled to play on Sunday at home against Coda.
