After tying Iran in their opener and beating Libya 3-0 on Sunday, the indoor soccer World Cup defending champions Spain beat the Czech Republic 4-0.
Playing in Rio de Janeiro, the team finally put together a convincing victory in their quest to three-peat. The Spaniards won in 2000 and 2004, spoiling the party of the Brazilian national team in each year.
The Spanish started the game with their focus on the offense. However, the defense allowed the forwards to relax and stay up front, ever aware of a fast break opportunity.
With their relentless attack, the defense of the Czechs weakened, opening up many holes and allowing the Spanish team to penetrate. Spain only scored one goal in the first half, but scored three goals in a row in a matter of five minutes in the second half.
With their victory, the reigning champs now have seven points and lead Group D. The Czech Republic remain with three points, but are not yet knocked out of the competition. Source: Xinhua
