Veteran AC Milan goal-getter Filippo Inzaghi has extended his contract with the Milan club for a year, club sources said Wednesday.

Inzaghi, 35, the all-time leading goalscorer in UEFA competitions with 64 goals, will be a month shy of his 37th birthday when the new contract expires on June 30, 2010.

The former Italy striker has played himself back into Milan's starting lineup despite stiff competition from Pato of Brazil and Italy's Marco Borriello.

He has scored three important goals this term, all last month, in Milan's Serie A wins over Sampdoria and Siena and its UEFA Cup victory at Heerenveen.

In a career that started in 1991, Inzaghi has played for six clubs including Verona, Parma and Atalanta but really made his mark at Juventus from 1997 to 2001, where he scored 57 goals in 120 games and won a Serie A title in 1997.

He has scored 56 goals for Milan in 141 games, winning the scudetto in 2004 and the Champions League in 2003 and 2007 when he got both goals in Milan's revenge win over Liverpool.
