At home at the Engenhao stadium, Botafogo defeated Santos 2-0 on Saturday to savor their first victory and put an end to Santos' undefeated streak in this year's Brazilian Championship.
Both goals came in the second half. In the 81st minute, Thiaguinho passed the ball off to Batista who took a quick shot on goal, and the ball was deflected by Santos' Fabao to fool goalkeeper Fabio Costa, entering the net.
In the 86th minute, Fabao again helped Botafogo to score. The defender took an odd angle in closing out Botafogo's striker Laio. Laio evaded the defense and found himself in front of the Santos goal, lighting up the scoreboard with his team's second goal.
Botafogo's victory was well needed. They now have six points in six rounds of the Brazilian Championship and currently are out of the danger zone of the worst four teams in the league.
On June 20, Botafogo returns to action when they will travel to play Vitoria. On June 21, Santos will host Atletico-MG in the seventh round of play. Source: Xinhua
