France striker Karim Benzema joined Real Madrid from Olympique Lyon, the Ligue 1 club said on their website on Wednesday.

Lyon said they had accepted Benzema's decision after he had made it clear he wanted the deal to be "concluded quicker than initially envisaged".

The 21-year-old Benzema becomes Real's third major signing after Brazil's Kaka and Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo.
