The president of Sevilla football club, Jose Maria del Nido is facing a possible jail term for his role in a serious fraud case.
The Anti-Corruption Agency in Spain has requested a term of up to 12 years in prison for Del Nido for his role in what has been called the "Minutas case."
This case involves urban corruption and the misuse of public funds in the town of Marbella in the South of Spain, where Del Nido, who is a lawyer, represented the former town majors Jesus Gil and Julian Munoz.
Munoz has already served time in jail for his role in the related "Malaya case."
Del Nido faces a string of different charges and if found guilty, he not only faces time in prison, but would also be prohibited from holding any public office for up to 17 years.
That would mean he would be unable to continue as president of Sevilla football club.
Last season Sevilla finished third in Spain's Primera Liga and as a result qualified for the Champions League for the second time in just four years. Source: Xinhua
