Cerro Porteno captured the Paraguayan Apertura championship on the final day of the season on Sunday with a 1-0 win over 12 de Octubre.
Captain Jorge Britez was on target six minutes before break to give Cerro the win at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asuncion and their first title since 2005 and 28th altogether.
12 de Octubre played a man short from the 66th minute following a red card for Diego Martinez for a bad foul on striker Victor Ferreira.
Libertad, winners of the previous four championships, including two last year in the revised format, finished second four points behind Cerro after a 0-0 draw with Tacuary. Source: Xinhua
