Angolan Hotel and Tourism Minister Pedro Mutindi here on Wednesday promised that the government would create all conditions to host the African Football Cup of Nation (CAN2010) scheduled to be held in Angola in January, 2009.
Pedro Mutindi made the remarks when visiting the ongoing 26th Luanda International Fair (FILDA-2009), saying that the government has allocated all necessary investments in the construction of sports facilities and hotels to guarantee the carrying out of the CAN2010 in a smooth way.
The CAN2010 will be held in Angola's four cities of Luanda, Benguela, Cabinda and Lubango from January 10 to 31 next year.
Since the end of the 27-year civil war in 2002, Angola has been doing its best to improve its image and the hosting of the CAN2010 is a rare opportunity for the government to show its fast improvement of both the nation's image and fast economic growth.
To make the CAN2010 a great success, the Angolan government has invested huge funds in constructing four stadiums in the four hosting cities as well as revamping airports in the four cities to enable them to accommodate evening flights.
Last week, after a four-day inspection tour to Angola's four hosting cities, Chairman of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou said he is satisfied with what the Angolan government has achieved to prepare for the CAN2010.
He said he was, generally speaking, satisfied with what he saw in Angola, either having to do with infrastructures or concerning organization. Source: Xinhua
