After nearly three months without a victory on the road, Botafogo won at Goias on Sunday by the score of 3-1.
It took Botafogo 11 games to return to win away from home in the Brazilian Championship. The team now looks to climb out of danger from being lowered into the second division of next year's tournament.
Botafogo scored the game's first goal in the 49th minute when Jobson dribbled through the defense and blasted the ball into the back of the Goias net.
The team scored again in the 62nd minute when Jobson crossed the ball to Victor Simoes who one-timed the ball past the Goias goalkeeper, Harlei. Just minutes later, Botafogo scored in the 64th minute off of an individual play from Andre Lima who worked through the defense and shot the ball past Harlei.
Goias was able to score their only goal in stoppage time. Taking a chance from well outside of the penalty box, Amaral nailed the ball into the upper right angle of Botafogo's net.
Botafogo's win improves their ranking to 17th place with 27 points. The team still remains in danger of placing among the worst-four teams in the Brazilian Championship, suffering the consequences of being lowered into the second division for next year's play. For Goias, the team dropped from second place to fourth place with 45 points.
Both teams return to action on October 8. Botafogo will host Atletico-MG while Goias will travel to play Cruzeiro for the 28th round of play.
