Brazil unveil domestic soccer awards for 2009 season

One day after the close of this year's Brazilian championship, the Brazilian Confederation of Soccer (CBF) held an event on Monday to honor the tournament's best players, coaches and teams.
The Coach of the Year Award, presented by Brazilian national team's head coach Dunga, went to Andrade. Andrade began the year as the assistant coach of Flamengo, but then replaced Cuca as the head coach and led the team to winning the club's sixth championship title.
Scoring 19 goals over the span of the 38 rounds of play apiece, Adriano and Diego Tardelli shared this year's Top Scorer Award. In total, 1,076 goals were scored in this year's competition.
The coveted trophy of the MVP went to Palmeiras midfielder Diego Souza, and Heber Roberto Lopes was named the Best Referee for the fourth straight year.
Vasco da Gama received their trophy as the champion of the second division league. They also earned promotion to the first division next season.
This year's Most Improved Player Award went to Fernandinho de Barueri, while Fluminense midfielder Conca took the Best Individual Player of the Tournament title. Conca also came in 3rd place in the contest for the Best Left Midfielder.
The top four teams of this year's first-division championship - Flamengo, Internacional, San Paulo and Cruzeiro, will represent Brazil in the 2010 Libertadores Cup. Teams placed 5th to 13th qualified to play in the 2010 South American Cup, while Coritiba, Santo Andre, Nautico and Sport were lowered to the second division.
