The recently signed head coach of the Gremio soccer team Silas defended the potential of rookie head coaches throughout Brazil on Sunday.

Silas said that age does not affect a coach's performance and that pressure on the coach's position will always remain constant.

"If age was a determining factor, then Muricy Ramalho would have solved all of Palmeiras' problems and they would have won the Brazilian Championship," said Silas.

Silas went on to cite multiple examples of first time head coaches that have found success.

"I think that the best examples of this are Dunga as the head coach of the Brazilian national team, Leonardo at Milan and the rookie head coaches right here in Brazil like Mancini, Galo, Luis Carlos Goiano, Andrade, Ricardo Gomes and myself among others," said Silas.

Most of the names listed by Silas are former players. Silas believes that the experience as a player and the ability to observe the game have led to the rookie coaches' success and renovation of the game.
